‘Yello Nigeria!’

That cliche signaled the beginning of the GSM revolution in Nigeria – changing the nation’s telecoms sector forever.

Thanks to MTN Nigeria!

Well, eighteen years later, MTN has promised improved quality ICT offerings.

To that effect, it has launched a new messenger app – AYOBA.

It is a free instant messaging app, designed by Africans for Africans.

Just like the popular Whatsapp, Ayoba incorporates sophisticated end-to-end encryption to keep users’ data safe and ensure their privacy.

Messages in a conversation cannot be read by anyone else, while Ayoba users can communicate with anyone with a mobile device, even if they don’t have the Ayoba app yet.

There are plans to allow users make and receive payments via mobile money.

Could this be a direct rival to Whatsapp?
