Popular car hiring app Taxify has undergone a make-over.
It’s now to be called “Bolt.”
The company explained in a statement via twitter why it took the decision.
“With our entry into Nigeria over 2 years ago, we had one goal – build the best way to move in all the cities we operate. We have grown in leaps and bounds over the years and are now aiming to solve transportation needs on a broader scale.”
“Because of this, we are rebranding to take on a new name, one which encompasses our future. Our new name Bolt, stands for fast, effortless movement- exactly what you deserve.”
Taxify started five years ago with a mission to make urban transportation easier and faster.
At that time, its first product was a taxi dispatch platform, hence the name.
Since the company has grown into a much broader transportation platform, providing ride-hailing with cars and motorbikes, as well as scooter sharing.
With a customer base of more than 25 million using Bolt app to move around in their city, the company says it has reached an important milestone in its journey to become the #1 ride-hailing app in Europe and Africa.
