Google Unveils First Developers Space in Africa

Google has unveiled its first developer’s space in Lagos, Nigeria, space is the first in Africa.

Google has several #googledevelopersspace is several countries of the world and the aim of this space is to support various initiatives such as housing community events and workshops, Hackertons and providing an accelerator for independent startups and Boot Camps for startups.

The representative of the Honorable Minister of communication and digital economy, Dr. Abimbola Alale said that Google has been able to create an enabling environment to make youths digital savvy in the country, and this has greatly helped the federal ministry of communication to achieve a good part of its vision.

Juliet Ehimuan, Head of Google Nigeria speaking at the launch gave an overview of the activities of google Launchpad Accelerator in Nigeria

“So far 46 startups have gone through our [Google Launchpad Accelarator] program and they’ve raised over 26 million dollars in funding,”

To use the space, you have to go through a Google Person of Contact (POC) who will file out a form for you to fill. the space is completely free and will be available to host free events.

The events also featured Q & A Sessions and google also showed some of its supported startups solving problems in Africa.
