Working to Advance Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in African Women (WAAW) Foundation has awarded scholarship to five girls in Africa.
The Chief Operating Officer of the foundation, Mrs Loveth Ubi, disclosed this in Abuja.
The girls who qualified for the scholarship were from African institutions and studied courses in STEM.
Ubi said that in 2018, WAAW Foundation publicised its annual scholarship programme for students who needed financial assistance and were full time students in STEM related courses.
“The scholarship was targeted at supporting need-based African female STEM-focused college education and establishing STEM outreach chapters at various higher institutions across Africa for undergraduates.
“We are pleased to announce that five girls have been outstanding and are now recipients of WAAW’s scholarship award.”
Ubi listed the girls as: Rachael Ogbigi from University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, studying Chemical Engineering; Joana Opoku, a third-year Pharmacy student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.
Others are Ntui Tong, a student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Buea, Cameroun; Ojolo Johan, a student of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of Lagos, Nigeria.
Tigu Woldetsadik, a student of Civil Engineering from Mekelle University, Ethiopia was also part of the scholarship awardees.
The girls commended the foundation for contributing toward making their education pursuit achievable.

girls in STEM fields to encourage their engagement in technology innovation to benefit Africa.
